2014 Essaouira Festival

It’s above all an ambiance. No setting is so conducive to listening and letting oneself go. In Essaouira the maalems feel at home, their chants and laments were born in this land open to the cultures of the world. In Essaouira the musicians excel in virtuosity, inventiveness and flair. They call upon the spirits, and with them all is possible !

French version of “Affondo” available very soon!

Cedres Press is very happy to announce that the french version of Jean-Baptiste Sourou’s book “Affondo” will be available very soon. Published in Italian by Edizioni San Paolo in 2011, the book won, in 2013 two important awards: International Award for Solidarity with Refugees at the International Journalism and Media Awards and the Award of the best Writer/Author at the Africa-Italy Excellence Awards.
The publication is about the African immigration through the Mediterranean Sea with its dramatic consequences, which the author calls “the drowned dreams of Africans”.
The coming publication will be the first of the new Publishing House, part of the Cedres Project, Dr Sourou is working on in Republic of Benin.

(Français) Le Marché des Arts du Spectacle Africain: c’est parti!

Lancement-du-MASA-2014Le MASA se déroule cette année du 1er au 8 mars dans plusieurs villes de la Côte d’Ivoire. Pour sa 8ème édition, ce grand rendez-vous continental de la danse, de la musique, du théâtre et du rire a choisi un thème assez éloquent: « les arts du spectacle face au défi du numérique ». Des artistes venant de toutes les régions du continent s’exhibent. La part du lion est réservée aux d’artistes ivoiriens comme le groupe Magic System qui donné au Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny le concert d’ouverture avec Salif Keita et les frères jumeaux P-Square du Nigéria, samedi 1er mars.
Les légendaires Alpha Blondy et Arafat DJ donnent un concert à Treichville, le jeudi 6 mars.
Le MASA est un programme de développement culturel des arts du spectacle africain. Ses objectifs sont à titre principal : le soutien à la création et à la production de spectacle de qualité ; la facilitation de la circulation des créateurs et leur production en Afrique et dans le monde ; la formation des artistes et des opérateurs de la chaine de production des spectacles ; le développement du secteur des arts de la scène (Musique, Théâtre, Danse) relevant du continent africain.

LagosPhoto, 4th Edition

Jelili Last SupperLagosPhoto, one of the most imoprtant photo festival in West Africa is taking place these days in Lagos, the economic city pf Nigeria.
Among the participants, photograpers from Benin, Cameroun, Kenya and overseas. According to the organisors, “LagosPhoto aims to establish a community for contemporary photography which will unite local and international artists through images that encapsulate individual experiences and identities from across all of Africa”. The festival presents and educates about photography as it is embodied in the exploration of historical and contemporary issues, the sharing of cultural practices, and the promotion of social programs. Until December the 1st, the festival events include exhibitions, workshops, artist presentations, discussions and large scale outdoor prints displayed throughout Lagos with the aim of reclaiming public spaces and engaging the general public with multifaceted stories of Africa.

A conference on Law and Religion in Africa: Comparative Practices, Experiences, and Prospects was held 14-15 January 2013 at the University of Ghana in Legon, Ghana. Scholars, legal professionals, and religious leaders from Botswana, Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierre Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, the United Kindgom, and the United States gathered in Legon for the two-day event.
